Lake Huron Motorcycle Circle Tour 2011
We drove Hwy 17 West to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, crossed over the bridge to Michigan, specifically stopping over in St. Ignace Michigan. We took Hwy 23 south all the way down to Saginaw Michigan and then Hwy 43 over to Sandusky Michigan and crossed over in Sarnia back into Canada. This is one of the most scenic rides we have ever taken. Lake Huron Motorcycle Circle Tour 2011 has opened our eyes to the breathtaking size of the great lakes and have given us a goal to ensure we ride around Lake Michigan and Lake Superior next. While riding on Hwy 23 South it was very quite with hardly any traffic and very few transports. Construction was kept at a minimum although the lower part of 23 South was scattered with roadkill everywhere. I can only assume someone had a day off and the nights roadkill was still on the road. There are many rest areas with facilities which are very clean, well paved with great views of Lake Huron. Rest stops are frequent and if you brought your swim gear there are many places to take a swim. Day One - 1st part of our trip was from North Bay Ontario to St. Ignace Michigan and it took us approximately 8 hours driving 520 km. Riding through Sudbury, Walden, Espanola, Blind River, Thessalon, Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and down to St. Ignace Michigan.

Day Two - 2nd part of our trip was from St. Ignace Michigan to London Ontario. This took us about 12 hours of and we rode approximately 662 km. Riding down 23 south through Cheboygan, Rogers City, Alpena, East Tawas, Bay City, Saginaw, Sandusky crossing the border back into Canada at Sarnia Ontario and over to London Ontario where we stayed overnight.
Day Three - 3rd part of our trip was from London Ontario back home to North Bay Ontario and apart from a few detours this took us 7 hours and another 500 km. Riding through Kitchener, Waterloo, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Barrie, Huntsville and back home to North Bay Ontario.
Total trip was about 1800 km - and was incredibly scenic. Lake Huron Motorcycle Circle Tour 2011 was a total hit. No rain always makes a nice trip.
You can even pump your own water for a quick drink. ![]() Here we are riding over the Mackinaw Bridge Border crossing in Northern Michigan ->
Here's a cool rock which is over 3 million years old, so they say!
