Child Abuse Prevention and Protection of Youth
In the Fight to Stop Child Abuse
The CAPPY Ride against child abuse is one of the most popular motorcycle rides in the area and supports the important work of THRIVE Child and Youth Trauma Services (formerly the Community Child Abuse Council of Canada).
1 in 3 girls and 1 and 5 boys are sexually abused. It's happening in our own backyards but too often remains silent and hidden while so many children of all ages, from infancy through adolescence, suffer this trauma. Child sexual abuse is an ugly and heinous crime. It can be life eroding. It can kill. But together we can make a difference. Together we can help stop child abuse. And that's why we ride!
The CAPPY Ride combines the joys of motorcycling with the strength of community engagement to support child abuse prevention, education and treatment. We're in it because we believe children have a basic human right to be protected from sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and other forms of maltreatment – and we all have a responsibility to help ensure that. With the support of local riding clubs and motorcyclists, we offer a well organized, safe, fun, police escorted ride which is planned along a scenic route. The day also includes breakfast, BBQ lunch, great fun, prizes, event T-shirt, live entertainment and more.
All proceeds from the CAPPY Ride support the important work of THRIVE Child and Youth Trauma Services in child abuse prevention, education, and specialized treatment for child and youth victims of sexual abuse and children with sexual behaviour problems. Established in 1976 (as the Community Child Abuse Council), THRIVE is a federally incorporated charity and a highly reputable organization committed to excellence in service.
